Rust Disease
Initial symptoms of rust disease on lawn turf are yellow flecks on the leaf and stems. As the disease develops, the flecks enlarge.
The disease is caused by fungi that attack and kill the leaves of lawn turf, and is most prevalent in warm conditions on lawn turf that is growing under stressed conditions.
The best approach to preventing the development of rust disease in lawn turf is proper care.
In summary, the following suggestions should get you started:
- Mow your lawn turf properly. Tall grass stays wet a long time each day, and this is ideal for disease development.
- Fertilise your lawn turf properly.
Water your lawn turf and make sure that it drains well. Fungi need water to attack your lawn turf. The longer your lawn turf is wet, the more problems you will get.
Soil that does not drain well will stay wet longer and cause your lawn turf to grow poorly. If your soil puddles for hours after a rainfall, it may be compacted.
